Stars Reach opens wild wormholes to randomly generated planets in latest playtest build

When it comes to real world astrophysics, throwing yourself into a wormhole is generally a bad idea. In the case of the new playtest update of Stars Reach, however, it’s strongly advised, especially since entering these so-called “wild wormholes” will take you to an all-new procedurally generated planet.

Every time players enter a wormhole, they’ll appear on the surface of a planet where all of its resources, flora, creatures, and geography are randomly created by the MMO’s new procedural generation tech. Once players get their fill of their RNG location, they can just simply use the portal they entered from in order to return to space.

In the future, these wild wormholes will spawn randomly and promise to lead players to “truly bizarre planets that are outside of Servitor control,” though they’ll need to bear in mind that the wormhole can close at any moment, leaving a player stranded. For now, wild wormholes are wide open and safe to use in order to test things. Just don’t place a homestead on one of these planets’ surfaces.

As for the rest of the patch, that introduces an overhaul to the basic crafting UI, modifications and additions for the chronophaser’s lithify and erode functions, and a long list of fixes. The devs at Playable Worlds have also collected their week’s worth of videos and posts with a lore dump, an in-house interview with vice president Niina Fujioka, and some influencer videos.
