Temtem Swarm adds new map, custom challenge modifiers, and a spicy new playable critter

The early access swarmlike (that’s roguelike with swarming enemies) of Temtem Swarm has gotten itself a fresh content update, and this one promises an Endless Inferno. Or at least it’s titled that; ideally the game will not burst into flames and remain an unquenchable force the moment you fire it up to see what’s new.

Silliness aside, the “inferno” referenced in the patch’s subtitle is related to a new map known as Kisiwa that promises to blend fire and ice together, the first playable fire type Tem in the form of Ryber, and two new mini-bosses and one big boss in the new map, the latter of which is capable of causing weather effects with their attacks.

In addition to the new map and creatures, the update brings a hacking levels system, which effectively introduces selectable modifiers to player runs in order to ramp up the challenge as well as the pansun currency rewards for being successful. The mode currently allows players to apply 10 different modifiers, while a “hacking level” for a map is initially limited but gets raised if the challenge run is cleared.

Another tentpole feature is related to the public lobby system, which has seen several quality-of-life updates including more details about a chosen map, connection strength, and whether XP sharing is engaged. Lobby details will refresh every two seconds, and public lobbies that are too far away from a player’s physical location won’t appear in the list.

Overall quality-of-life is also another big portion of the patch, with the ability to ping in co-op, a way to see your own connection strength, and a couple of additional options for perk selection that lets players either “snooze” a choice to select later or remove a perk from the pool completely. There are also synergy adjustments, balance updates, and bug fixes on top, so those who are deep into the Swarm should probably read up for more of those details.
