Internet Road Trip invites you to pile into a virtual car with hundreds of opinionated drivers

Feel like ditching your responsibilities to cruise in an aimless road trip? While you might not have the time or gas money to do that right now, you can virtually engage in this with the hilariously fun Internet Road Trip.

In what feels like a delightful throwback to the old web, Internet Road Trip puts hundreds of players behind the wheel of a vehicle cruising through North America with scenes from Google Street View flickering by every few seconds. In addition to enjoying the views, Discord group chat, and the onboard radio, players can vote every so often which way they want to go. The majority rules in this case, and as of yesterday, the trip had clocked over 1582 miles and cruised right into New Brunswick, Canada, from a starting point in Boston. (They’ve been circling around in New Brunswick all week, in fact.)

It’s a strangely addictive experience to be “driving” with hundreds of strangers, but the fun chat, pretty scenery, and democratic directions make it a compelling experience. Oh yeah, and it’s free and browser-based, so you can check it out for yourself.
