Exactly a month ago, Kakao and Lionheart launched Odin Valhalla Rising, their Norse-mythology-themed MMO that promised typical MMORPG fare like dungeons and large-scale PvP. Apparently, that sounded pretty good to a lot of hungry MMO players, as Kakao announced this week that 20M people downloaded the game across PC and mobile. That apparently includes everyone since the game’s OG Korean launch in 2021, but still, it’s not shabby.

The announcement arrived just in time to bolster news of the game’s first major update hereabouts, too. “This update introduces multiple new mechanics, including the Guild Dungeon, Guild Raid, and Guild Raid systems, to enhance the co-op experience further for guild members,” Lionheart says.

“The update challenges players to take on a new boss dungeon featuring 10 difficulty stages that must be cleared sequentially. The higher the stage is, the greater the rewards are. This dungeon is available to members of guilds level 4 and above. Those brave enough to take on the challenge can also earn individual rewards like loot boxes and guild coins. Items obtained from defeating guild bosses through raids will be listed in a guild-exclusive auction for members to bid on, with the proceeds distributed among members through bidding.”

The press release further talks up the new guild alliance chat and raid party system – clearly more doubling-down on the game’s social networks. The new update trailer is down below. And if you’re wondering, MOP’s Tyler gave the game a spin earlier in May finding it to be pretty decent for a generic temport.
