Don’t look now, but Aion 2 may be one of the biggest MMORPG projects on the near horizon that nobody’s watching. It’s easy to forget about this game, since it’s been in development for so long and mostly only whispered during investor calls, but NCsoft is finally giving us a deeper look into its follow-up to the 2009 original.

In a recent livestream, the studio laid out the vision for this MMO that’s set 200 years after Aion. Ncsoft said that it’s now able to create a much more realized world — “the complete version of Aion” — that’s 36 times bigger and allows for unrestrained flight (true flying, not just gliding). Interestingly, Elyos and Asmodian players will be segregated into separate servers with only PvP matchmaking battles and invasion events connecting the two.

Aion 2 is coming later to Korea and Taiwan this year (and to the west next year) with eight classes: Chanter, Cleric, Sorcerer, Spiritmaster, Ranger, Assassin, Templar, and Gladiator. The studio confirmed a lot of PvE content including world events, more dynamic action combat, and dungeons with difficulty settings.

The title is planning a focus test on June 28th and 29th in South Korea. NCsoft dropped a short gameplay trailer to give fans a taste of this sequel:
