Last week, the Kickstarter success story category gained another entry with the successful funding of Astrobotanica, a detailed cozy survivalbox that might have escaped our notice but for the promise of co-op… eventually.

As pitched, Astrobotanica (which we’re not gonna put in all caps because owwwww) is a “relaxing survival game” from Polish studio Space Goblin Studio. “Astrobotanica stands on a core foundation of survival games, but instead of relying on dangers and threats, it is filled with positivity via exploration, puzzle-solving, experimenting, and collaboration with primal humans,” the devs say. “There are still perils and pitfalls in the game, only underscoring the dominant relaxing vibe, where players are rewarded for their proactivity, consistency and innovative thinking with much more than just seeing another day.”

Features include exploration, crafting, socializing with NPCs, puzzles, mysteries, and of course, botany are all part of play as your space traveler studies and manages a cutesy primal Earth.

The self-published game funded at £46,836 (about $63,000 US) last week with over 1500 backers, and you can already wishlist it on Steam, where it’s still flagged as a single-player game that’s still in early pre-alpha, with closed alpha planned for this summer, public beta by autumn, and early access this coming winter.

It’s at the early access stage that you’ll want to pay more attention, as apparently, that’s when co-op will finally be introduced. “The key milestone to develop during Early Access on Steam, among others, is co-op play,” the Kickstarter says. In other words… see you in early access.
