The Absolution update for Guild Wars 2 isn’t just bringing a creepy new zone; it’s also going to be introducing a host of quality-of-life improvements to the MMORPG, not the least of which being the Wizard’s Gobbler.
Just what is a Wizard’s Gobbler? It’s not a wrestling finishing move (unsurprisingly), a magic-wielding turkey (regrettably), or some innuendo-laced slang term (thankfully). It’s a catch-all item that combines multiple portable exchangers that convert items and currency to more valuable materials – aka gobblers – into one, letting players break down unwanted things without having to file through individual exchangers.
There will also be a Wizard’s Portal Tome item that works similarly to the Wizard’s Gobbler in that it combines multiple teleportation devices in to one after a side quest is completed. Finally in “converting stuff into other stuff” features, the Absolution patch will let players change fine, masterwork, and rare rift essence into a wallet currency for free when visiting a specific NPC.
Additional QoL updates will include easier acquisition of research notes, a new way to get guaranteed items from commander’s choice chests, and perhaps most importantly, a doubling of homestead decor limits from 1,000 to 2,000 items – 500 at base and another 500 earned by unlocking grandmaster handiworker crafting tier. Just know that you cannot add a Wizard’s Gobbler to your homestead; it is also not a decor item.
Finally of note: Absolution will bring back English language VO for the female Sylvari player character and Queen Jennah, though voice lines for several other NPCs will still be missing in the patch. This is an ongoing situation in GW2 as ArenaNet honors the ongoing voice actor strike by not replacing beloved actors. “We are continuing to keep an eye on the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike and will be updating you as we are able,” the studio says. “Thank you again for your patience!”
