The Embers Adrift devs has clearly struggled through the last few months after their payment processor swindled them, and the Steam launch hasn’t fully gone to plan either. As we previously noted, Stormhaven ran into a technical glitch following the game’s Steam rollout whereby players were getting billed for multiple months at once via Steam. This, obviously, was far from ideal, and the team had to refund everyone. In any case, this week’s patch for the game has routed around this problem explicitly by switching to a new subscription time block system. Now, players can purchase time blocks directly, then apply them to their accounts.
The Embers Adrift team states this will require less reliance upon Steam’s backend while also reiterating that players who had been charged multiple times should have been credited for all of the time billed manually. Moving forward, players will need to specifically buy time blocks to stay subscribed. The patch also features some lighting and game improvements, but it’s the time blocks that are the main feature – and hopefully represent smooth sailing for the title from here on out.
