Next week is patch week for gacha multiplayer RPG Genshin Impact, as players can look forward to more story, more characters to gamble for, and additional pieces of content when Version 5.7: A Space and Time for You goes live on Wednesday, June 18th, which will be headlined with a new main story quest.

“Following the ‘Bedtime Story’ quest, the Archon Quest continues to unravel the tale of the Traveler and their sibling. In this new chapter, the Abyss Order begins to mobilize in Natlan as part of their sibling’s grand plan. Natlan’s defenders, including Mavuika and her allies, remain on high alert, while Dainsleif joins Traveler on the front lines in a form that players have never seen before. As the journey leads them deeper into the domain of the Abyss Order, the Traveler may begin to uncover some long-buried truths about their sibling’s schemes.”

On top of the new story content, the patch brings two new characters in the form of the five-star Skirk and the four-star Dahlia, new events at the Sumeru Akademiya, several additional side quests, and a new Stygian Onslaught permanent feature that pits players against a rotation of three bosses with six levels of difficulty. Quality-of-life features are on deck as well, including the ability to get tripled rewards for certain activities by using fragile resin and additional graphics options for mobile players.

Players can get a taste of some of what’s to come in the game’s latest trailer, though you will have to turn on subtitles as a result of the voice overs not being in English. This likely stems from continued friction between Hoyoverse and striking SAG-AFTRA members, which saw certain characters from other Hoyoverse games get recast allegedly without warning and saw Genshin’s English voice for Paimon quit the role over alleged failure to receive pay and the recasting of one of GI’s characters, which caused its own imbroglio as VAs and fans clashed over the decision – an argument that appears to still be happening.
