The media blitz for Chrono Odyssey roars on as Kakao Games and Chrono Studio have taken some time for another interview and provided some edited but full gameplay in a preview showcase.
We’ll start with that interview from YouTuber and streamer Kanon with executive producer Yoong Sang-tae, where he asked a wide assortment of questions about the game’s various content and design choices. Here are some of the highlights.
- Endgame will consist of dungeons and “multiplayer content with continuous growth loops,” though Yoon is also quick to point out that similar continuous content will be on offer for solo players as well.
- PvE endgame will bring 10-player raids and five-player dungeons, while PvPers can expect openly contested PvP zones where flagging for fights is automatic and a PvPvE zone known as Eden.
- Gearing through the game, including at endgame, can be done either through farming for drops or via crafting, with no method having a distinct advantage over the other.
- Gear will have multiple tiers and unique perks can be extracted and transferred, and endgame gearing is planned to be horizontal.
- In terms of item enhancement, Chrono will avoid typical K-MMORPG contrivances such as items breaking upon failure or perks being obtained at obscenely low probabilities.
- Skill trees are intended to be “easy to learn, hard to master,” meaning things start off simply but build options will expand at higher levels.
- There are skills and builds for dedicated trinity roles, but Yoon stressed that ultimately choice of builds is looking to be supported for endgame PvE content.
- Monetization will be cosmetics only, including weapon skins, mount skins, emotes, and a battle pass. Yoon stresses no pay-to-win or enhancing items will be sold; he was asked this question three times over and repeated his stance each time.
- Finally, Chrono is expecting to have “around one million participants” for its upcoming closed beta test.
Of course, answering questions about content and seeing it played are two separate things, which leads to a 17 minute-long gameplay preview that offers some full looks at a variety of activities including world quests, boss fights including PvE bounty targets and Chrono Gates, time portal instances for small parties, obstacle and combat-filled labyrinths and trials, and the effects of the time manipulating Chronotector in action. That footage awaits below.
