The next chapter for ARK: Survival Ascended is here (sort of), as the sandbox’s “first full expansion” arrived yesterday on Steam, Xbox, and PlayStation with Lost Colony. Players can purchase the expansion pass to get a bunch of new perks and abilities, but they’ll have to wait until much later this year for the actual storyline to unlock.
“Discover the frost-covered ruins of Arat Prime—the birthplace of the ARKs—in ASA’s first major story expansion,” the studio said. “Follow Mei Yin, voiced by Michelle Yeoh, in cinematic anime sequences created by legendary studio MAPPA, and prepare to face what was left behind.”
It should be noted that ARK: Survival Ascended is still in early access, but this is not the first time the franchise rolled out expansions while the host title hadn’t officially launched.
The expansion includes tamable shoulder-perching drakelings, a Veilwyn companion, a new skill tree system, an underground TEK bunker, and — coming this December — the game’s full storyline where players will go toe-to-toe with the demons of Arat Prime. The studio said that this expansion “will directly connect the storylines of ARK Extinction and Genesis, leading into the events of ARK 2.”
ARK also is airing a 10-year celebration spot in theaters before How to Train Your Dragon:
