Sure, you could deploy some typical armaments in your Sea of Thieves sessions like firebombs or throwing spears or cannons, but what if you could just crack open a cursed chest to have a bunch of skeletal foes pour out of it? That is now an option thanks to the sandbox’s mid-season patch, which will let players break the seal on Reaper’s chests to spawn multiple waves of Order of Bone and Blade skeletons.
Spawned skellies will continue to appear until the chest runs out of charges and will defend where the chest is placed, either on the ground or aboard a ship. So, yes, this means players can effectively plant a bomb that spits out angry skeletons on the deck of other players’ vessels unless the chest is tossed overboard.
The patch also applies several promised adjustments to the game, such as cross-region matchmaking, the option to cash in the Cannon of Rage, additional pillar locations for the Ancient Secrets voyage, and updates that eliminate mods, bring more text profanity filtering, and nullify invite spam. There is a long list of bug fixes as well.
Finally of note is the return of the Fight Nights event, which brings doubled allegiance and gold earnings for taking on factional hourglass battles between now and June 26th, along with a pair of new trinkets to earn for those who win their skirmishes.
