Krafton’s Mimesis is a co-op psychological horror game where players have to find an AI-powere

Most real flesh-and-blood humans are pretty good at identifying AI-generated crap, but what if there’s a game that tests those skills while waging what’s called “psychological warfare” on players? That’s the elevator pitch for Mimesis, an in-development multiplayer game for up to four by Krafton-owned ReLU Games where players must gather, survive, and try to pick out the titular AI-powered faker in their midst.

“The core gameplay fun lies in the Mimesis’ deception and disruption. Mimesis implements reinforcement learning-based AI technology to replicate natural speech and behavior like a real human, leading players to constantly question the identity of their teammates. Through this, players experience intense psychological warfare and deep immersion.”

Gameplay mostly focuses on a tram that serves as the central base for players as they search for resources and fuel during the day and hope to move the tram through cursed rains at night; if the tram stops during the nightly rains, then the danger of the mimic apparently rises. The game also promises ever-changing maps, evolving threats, and unpredictable scenarios to try to keep the tension high.

Mimesis plans to hold closed beta testing from June 4th through 6th in order to “verify whether the core gameplay elements function as intended,” while a Steam Next Fest demo is also being promised between June 10th and 17th.

Worth noting is that this is not the first time we’ve seen a game called Mimesis; veteran MMORPG players will remember that Tannhauser Gate published MMO Mimesis Online back in 2001; it sunsetted 20 years ago.
